Fuck Off Winter, Hello Hinterland
By Milo | March 31, 2010

Surely this week’s truly abominable snowy and blizzardy weather is the last of it now it’s officially supposedly spring. Surely we can have an April without snow? If not I may demand my money back.
I’ve been coping surprisingly well without booze and chocolate, the latter which I decided to give up for Lent on a whim despite not being in the slightest bit religious. Enjoying the craic at the Hinterland festival in Glasgow on Saturday is going to be tough without a few pints, however there are enough good acts on to make it worthwhile even for nouveaux teetotallers like meself. And then on Sunday I get to gorge myself on easter eggs!
The line up is on the Hinterland site now, if you click on the picture on the front page it will magically grow bigger, like Mario after munching mushies.
My picks are the wonderful Jeffrey Lewis, Ambulances, French Wives, Silver Columns DJ set (their debut live set was awesome at Homegame), The Kays Lavelle & Panda Su. The rest I’ve not listened to yet, though I am just listening to the Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs who sound like fun (who could resist that name?) Mr Aye Tunes has some other picks and Glasgow Podcart have live sessions which I will be downloading and listening to shortly, (and I can already guess that the best is the one by Ambulances who I lurve).
I’m hoping to finally hook up with some of the other Scottish music bloggers who I know online but have never met IRL. But I am very shy, so I might just hide in a dark corner somewhere instead.
There’s still tickets left: http://www.thehinterlandfestival.com/blog/
And while I’m here, a wee plug for the Scotsman’s lovely new Radar site, formerly known as Under The Radar, which is well worth a peek.

The Podcart sessions are good, but aye, the Ambulances one is particularly outstanding.
Trying to catch everyone I want to see on Saturday is going to be a bloody nightmare, but I’ll be sure to check dark corners for you in between running from venue to venue like a lunatic.

Don’t be shy, you were in that mental band so therefore you have to feed me absinthe.

Yeah me too, I think seeing Ambulances, French Wives and Jeff Lewis will make me happiest, so I am focusing on that and then will take whatever else I can get. Cool, I will wear some reflective clothing just so I am visible.

Hope to make it through too, if I can summon the energy after a day at work (which on a Saturday, is just wrong).
Thanks for the plug! Can we get on your Links page now too? I’ll buy you a mineral water!

Ha, just seen that Ian, I am happy to feed you absinthe. Don’t listen to those who tell you it’s best in a small measure with a flaming spoon etc, it’s best necked straight from the bottle.

Nick, would be good to see you there, and good to have a travelling companion on way back too. ps I haven’t updated links page EVER, but I will make an effort to do so very soon!

Cheers Milo, this has really helped me on the whole "jealous that every other fucker is going to Hinterland bar me" front. The fact that I have Madeleine on Saturday night is irrelevant, I’m still deeply, deeply resentful!!
Have fun!!
*Large cough re the links page*
